 ONE: Add 32 ounces of Foaming Bath Butter to a large mixing bowl. Turn your mixer on low and break up the clumps of Foaming Bath Butter. Increase the speed and continue to whip until the butter is soft and there are no large chunks.

TWO: Add 1 ounce of oat oil. Turn your mixer on low to slowly incorporate the oil. Once it’s mostly incorporated, increase the speed and continue to whip the ingredients for about 30-60 seconds.

THREE: Add 0.3 ounces of liquid cashmere and 0.7 ounces of Cashmere Fragrance Oil. Whip until they’re completely combined. The mixture should be smooth and slightly fluffy.

FOUR: Add 10 ounces of granulated sugar and whip. Add another 10 ounces of sugar and continue to mix. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula and continue to whip until all the ingredients are completely incorporated.
NOTE: If you’d like, feel free to add more sugar. This amount gives a gentle exfoliation, but you can add more if you prefer. 

FIVE: Scoop the scrub into the jars (or any other containers you prefer). We filled about four jars with a little bit left over. Store in a cool and dry place. To use, apply to wet skin and scrub. Wash off. Enjoy!

Smooth, creamy, and delightfully fragrant, orange butter may become your new favorite ingredient. It’s made with a blend of sweet almond oil, hydrogenated vegetable oil, and sweet orange essential oil. Together, these ingredients create a smooth butter with a bright yellow color and strong citrus scent.

Orange butter gives this whipped body scrub moisturizing properties and soft color. It’s blended with the Foaming Bath Butter using a hand mixer to create a light and fluffy texture that feels wonderful on the skin. Even on its own, the scrub has a faint orange smell thanks to the butter, but the added Orange Peel Cybilla Fragrance Oil really makes the scent pop.

This recipe is based on the Pumpkin Spice Latte Sugar Scrub. It has more sugar for more exfoliation, but feel free to reduce (or increase) the amount to suit your preference. Granulated sugar exfoliates, leaving skin smooth, soft, and clean.

A note about preservatives: Because the Foaming Bath Butter already contains a preservative, an additional preservative was not used in this recipe. If you would like to add a preservative, a 0.5% usage rate is recommended to avoid over-preserving the product.

Turmeric is a plant of the ginger family, and it’s used to create turmeric powder. The bright yellow spice is part of many applications including various cuisines and fabric dyes. Turmeric powder has become increasingly popular in the beauty industry in recent years because it is thought to be beneficial for skin and hair.

Turmeric contains curcumin, an antioxidant thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric is often used in skin-care products to ease redness, brighten the skin, and even skin tone. However, we only use it to add color and texture to our recipes. As always, if you’re selling your products, you can’t claim they cure redness or any skin condition. This Turmeric & Ginger Body Scrub contains turmeric powder and ginger essential oil. The new essential oil smells just like freshly cut ginger. Made with sugar, it has a medium amount of scrub that’s great for the body but would be harsh on the face. The addition of olive oil provides moisturizing properties, while the Natural Castile Liquid Soap Base makes sure the scrub washes away cleanly. Without the liquid soap, you may experience some staining from the turmeric.

If winter left your lips dry and chapped, a scrub is a great way to restore them. Just like body scrubs, lip scrubs exfoliate away dry skin. Once the dry skin is removed, lip balm absorbs better. Granulated sugar is the perfect lip exfoliant because it’s gentle but scrubby (and it tastes good if you happen to get some in your mouth).

This Floral Sugar Lip Scrub is a combination of coconut oil, cocoa butter, and rosehip seed oil to create a texture that’s solid at room temperature. It’s quite firm, but softens up when it comes in contact with skin. If you prefer a softer texture, decrease the amount of cocoa butter. A great way to test the formula is with the spoon trick. Rose Gold Mica adds a light pink hue, but does not transfer color to lips. Passionfruit Rose Fragrance and Flavor Oil gives a floral scent.

To use, apply the scrub to dry, clean lips and scrub away! Wipe or wash away any extra lip scrub on the lips. After using the scrub, apply your favorite lip balm to hydrate. ONE: In a small heat-safe bowl or container, add the coconut oil, cocoa butter, and rosehip seed oil. Place the container in the microwave on 30-60 second bursts until the cocoa butter has completely melted. Be careful when removing from the microwave as the container may be hot.

TWO: Add the Passionfruit Rose Fragrance and Flavor Oil into the container and stir in completely. Add the Rose Gold Mica and stir until there are no longer any chunks of mica.

THREE: Add the granulated sugar to the melted oils, and stir to fully incorporate the sugar. The texture of the mixture will thicken.

FOUR: The exact texture of the mixture will depend on how hot it is. If your mixture is extremely hot, the sugar will tend to fall to the bottom. If this is happening, stir the mixture until it cools. The colder the mixture, the more the sugar will suspend throughout the oils. Once it’s a “gloopy” texture (similar to the photo below), transfer the scrub into the lip balm pots. Allow them to fully cool before use. Sugar scrubs are a favorite of mine; they are easy to make and sugar feels refreshing and nice on the skin. Using up the sugar in my pantry also prevents sugar temptation! To give this Wildflower Honey Sugar Scrub a little extra “oomph,” I added strawberry seeds. They are a mild tan color and are a little rougher than granulated sugar. Because of this, I recommend this scrub for the body and not for the face. As a bonus, we designed free downloadable labels for this scrub. The template includes labels for the Pure Honey Cold Process Soap and Beeswax Lotion Bars (coming later this week). Find them here.

A combination of jojoba oil and potassium cocoate are added to the dry ingredients for a soft, wet sand texture. Jojoba oil is a luxurious liquid wax that is produced from the seed of the jojoba shrub. Click here to learn more about jojoba oil. Potassium cocoate is the potassium salt of coconut fatty acid, and acts similar to liquid soap. In this scrub, it helps give a mild lather and leaves skin feeling clean rather than oily.

Violet is one of my favorite “purple” smelling fragrances. Isn’t that funny how a scent can convey a color? These Violet Sugar Scrub Cubes are made with Violet Fragrance Oil, which is a delicate and feminine floral scent. Sugar scrub cubes are essentially the same thing as a sugar scrub but in solid form! They are made with a combination of oils, melt and pour soap base and sugar. When applied to the skin, they lightly exfoliate and leave skin feeling soft and clean.

To see a similar recipe in action, check out the Solid Sugar Soap Scrub video on Soap Queen TV. It’s an oldie but a goodie. I added a small amount of glycerin to this recipe to help the scrubs break apart in your hands a little easier. The extra glycerin does cause a small amount of glycerin dew to form on top. If you’d like, you can just omit it from the recipe completely.

These scrubs get their color from Liquid Violet, which is a pigment dispersed in glycerin. It takes a bit of mixing to get the colorant to disperse in the soap, oil and glycerin mixture. I found a metal whisk worked great. You can also use LabColors, micas or a Color Block for this recipe. Because this recipe contains melt and pour, glycerin (which is water soluble) and oil, there are a lot of options. =)

Once the scrubs harden in the mold, I removed them from the package and cut them into individual cubes. Then, I stored them in an 8 oz. Plastic Bail Jar. You can also keep them in the Small Cubes Mold & Package, and break off a piece when you’re ready to use. I love using the Small Cubes Mold & Package for this project – the size of the cubes is perfect!

3 oz. Glycerin

ONE: Chop and melt 11 ounces of Clear Melt and Pour Soap in the microwave using 15-20 second bursts until melted. Once completely melted, add the glycerin and sweet almond oil. Stir the ingredients together. The mixture will become cloudy, and some oils will sit on top. This is normal.

TWO: Begin adding drops of the Liquid Violet. I found that in order to incorporate the colorant into the mixture, I needed to “break apart” the drops with a whisk. In the photo below, you can see how the colorant is not mixing in. If this happens to you, grab a whisk (preferably metal) and start whisking! The colorant will start to disperse throughout the mixture.

THREE: Continue to add drops of the Liquid Violet until you achieve a rich purple color. I used about 12-15 drops. Keep in mind when the sugar is added, the color will lighten. Add drops until you’re happy with the shade. Use the whisk to completely mix in.

FOUR: Add the Violet Fragrance Oil and use the whisk to mix in thoroughly. At this point, the mixture will have cooled and thickened. Once the sugar is added, the mixture will cool very quickly. To keep the mixture fluid and pourable after the sugar is mixed in, check the temperature of the mixture. Heat in the microwave using 10 second bursts, stirring between each burst, until the mixture is about 135 ° F. Be careful to not burn the mixture.

FIVE: Open all the molds and have them ready on the counter. Add the granulated sugar, and use a spatula to quickly stir in.

SIX: Pour the mixture into each Small Cubes Mold and Package. Allow them to cool and harden for several hours, up to overnight with the lid open.

SEVEN: Once the cubes have fully cooled and hardened, use a knife to cut the cubes at the seam. Or, you can break off a cube once you’re ready to use.

To use, wet hands and break apart the cube. Apply to the skin and scrub. The cube also creates a mild lather from the soap, leaving skin feeling clean yet moisturized. Store the cubes in a dry, cool place. Prevent them from coming in contact with water prior to use. Enjoy!

This Blueberry Jam Sugar Scrub will get your skin exfoliated and ready for shorts and tank tops. Sugar, Jasmine Jojoba Beads and Sierra Sky Jojoba Beads exfoliate and leave the skin feeling fresh. The jojoba beads also add a lovely blueberry color to the scrub. To lightly cleanse the skin, it contains potassium cocoate. Fractionated coconut oil adds some moisture to the recipe.

The scrub uses Copper Sparkle Mica and King’s Gold Mica to add a subtle shimmer. Brown and white sugar gently exfoliate the skin, and give the scrub a warm brown color. Burnt Sugar Fragrance Oil goes perfectly with the golden copper hues. The scrub is cleansing and non-greasy from the added potassium cocoate, and moisturizing from the avocado butter. Best of all, the scrub is easy to make!

What You’ll Need:
1.5 oz. Avocado Butter
3.5 oz. Potassium Cocoate
10 oz. Brown Sugar
10 oz. White Sugar
.8 oz. Burnt Sugar Fragrance Oil
7 mL Optiphen
2.5 tsp. Copper Sparkle Mica

ONE: In a large heat safe container, add 10 oz. brown sugar and 10 oz. white sugar. Make sure there is enough room in the bowl for the added oil, and for mixing.

TWO: In a small heat safe container, melt 1.5 oz. avocado butter on 5 second bursts. Stir between each burst.

THREE: Add 3.5 oz. of potassium cocoate to a separate heat safe container. Pour in the melted avocado butter and mix well. Potassium cocoate is a super foaming, all natural liquid soap base that helps to bind all the ingredients in this recipe together while cleansing the skin gently.
FOUR: Add 7 mL of Optiphen and .8 oz. of Burnt Sugar Fragrance Oil to the oil mixture. Mix to fully incorporate.

FIVE: Pour the oil mixture into the sugar and mix well.

SEVEN: Pour the scrub equally into the three jars and allow them to fully cool. Enjoy by scrubbing those rough elbows and knees in the shower or use it as an all-over-body scrub to reveal fresh new skin. If you want to make this into a facial scrub, mix it with your favorite liquid soap or lotion in a 1:1 ratio, scrub well and, for extra moisture? Leave on your face for a full 10 minutes to let the oils do their job conditioning your skin.

It doesn’t snow a lot here in Bellingham, WA. I always get a little excited when does, even with the dicey driving conditions that follow. The snow falling is peaceful and beautiful. And when the sun comes out and shines on the fresh snow, it looks like it’s sparkling. That was the inspiration for this Sparkling Snow Sugar Scrub.

The scrub is perfect for those who prefer a lightweight product. The Foaming Bath Butter is light and fluffy. The sugar exfoliates while shea butter and shea oil moisturize the skin. As you scrub, a fresh and outdoorsy combination of Fresh Snow and Spring Meadow fragrance oils hit your nose. The Snowflake Sparkle Mica and Super Pearly White Mica leave a bit of shimmer on your skin. It’s like a mini Swiss Alps vacation each time you exfoliate!

Because the sugar is a gentle exfoliant, the scrub can be used on both the face and body. Keep in mind the micas do leave a shimmer on the skin, so you may want to leave them out if you’re using the product on your face.

What You’ll Need:

TWO: Add the shea butter and shea oil, and use the mixer to whip until the mixture is completely blended.

THREE: Add the Snowflake Sparkle Mica, Super Pearly White Mica, Fresh Snow Fragrance Oil and Spring Meadow Fragrance Oil. Use the mixer to blend until smooth. Be sure to start on a low speed so the mica does not “poof!” everywhere.

FOUR: Add sugar to the mixture, and blend until smooth.

FIVE: Transfer the scrub into the plastic bail jars, or another container. For this scrub, I chose to place the scrub into a frosting bag, and pipe the scrub into the jar for a smoother look. This step is optional, but it really makes the scrub look polished and professional.

SIX: To help make the scrub “pop,” sprinkle a small amount of the Snowflake Sparkle Mica on top of the scrub. Store the scrub in a dry, cool place.
A note about preservatives: Because the Foaming Bath Butter already contains a preservative, an additional preservative was not used in this recipe. You can have two DIY stations like I did (nail polish + sugar scrub), or focus on one project. In this post, I’ll show you how to setup a DIY sugar scrub station for your next party…look out for a “How to Throw a DIY Nail Polish Party,” post in a few weeks! =)

During this party, we created a Winter Gardenia Sugar Scrub. The scrub can be created directly in the 4 oz. plastic bail jar, so cleanup is easy. If you have a few scales, you can create the recipe using weight. If not, the volume amounts are listed in the recipe below as well. If measuring in volume, simply fill the jar to the top with sugar and stir. While this recipe features a specific fragrance oil and jojoba bead, you can use any fragrance or color of jojoba bead you’d like!

Created with moisturizing meadowfoam oil and potassium cocoate, this sugar scrub leaves hands feeling soft and silky. The Jasmine Jojoba Beads add non-scratchy, gentle exfoliation and a pop of elegant color. Don’t forget to add preservative! While this recipe does not contain water, this scrub may be stored in the shower and come in contact with water. To be on the safe side, Optiphen is added to the scrub to keep the scrub mold and bacteria free.

Winter Gardenia Sugar Scrub Recipe:

1 Four Ounce Jar
.5 oz . (6 tsp) Meadowfoam Oil
.3 oz. (2 tsp) Potassium Cocoate
2 mL Optiphen
2 mL Winter Gardenia Fragrance Oil
3.5 ounces Granulated Sugar
.2 oz. (2 tsp) Jasmine Jojoba Beads

ONE: Place meadowfoam oil and potassium cocoate in the jar and stir until well blended.
TWO: Add 2 mL optiphen and 2 mL fragrance oil. Stir well to thoroughly combine.
THREE: Add 2 tsp. of jojoba beads and the sugar into your jar. Carefully mix all ingredients together. Label your scrub and enjoy!

When setting up your scrub making area, keep in mind some containers and tools will be necessary. For the jojoba beads, small sample cups allowed the jojoba beads to be easily passed around the station. One large bowl of sugar with several measuring cups allowed multiple people access to the sugar at one time. One pound of sugar was plenty!

• One large bowl of sugar
• Measuring cups to scoop sugar
• Several sample cups of jojoba beads
• Teaspoons and tablespoons to scoop jojoba beads, oils, potassium cocoate
• Cup of droppers to add fragrance oil and preservative
• Plenty of spoons to stir the scrub together (at least one for each guest)
• Scissors and pens to cut out scrub labels and write the name

If you are worried about your counters, you may want to lay a protective surface on top. The great thing about this recipe is there are no colorants that could possibly stain clothing or counters. The only ingredient to be careful with is the fragrance oil, as fragrance oils can cause irritation if directly applied to the skin.

To help my party-goers feel confident in creating the scrub, I first demonstrated how to make the scrub. Then, I passed out the recipe cards so each person had the measurements and directions to easily reference. It was so fun to see the non-DIYers get excited about their homemade scrub!

Adding the jojoba beads into the liquid ingredients first helps the jojoba beads distribute throughout the scrub easily. Remember to have plenty of spoons on hand to ensure all the party-goers can thoroughly mix their scrubs.

Of course in addition to DIY, there was plenty of food and beverages to enjoy. See that cheese plate in the corner? So delicious! If serving food, I recommend having it in a separate area from the scrub ingredients to avoid any food/beauty ingredient cross contamination =)

Once the scrub is thoroughly mixed and complete, it’s time to add a label. The sugar scrub labels were specifically designed to allow the party attendees to name their own scrub. You can write the name of the fragrance oil, or get creative and come up with a unique personalized name!
